The Ohio Miami Valley Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is a nonprofit membership organization that promotes neuroscience research and education in the southwest Ohio region. The chapter’s sponsoring institutions include Miami University, the University of Cincinnati, and Wright State University. The chapter’s elected offices rotate annually among representatives of these institutions. Membership is open to all persons in southwest Ohio who are interested in neuroscience research. Membership in the Society for Neuroscience is not a requirement for membership in the OMV Chapter.
Neuroscience Day Is Monday, May 10!
Rajita Sinha, Ph.D. (left), will be the keynote speaker at OMV-SfN’s 2010 Neuroscience Day on Monday, May 10, at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Sinha is professor of psychiatry and director of the Yale Stress Center at Yale University. The title of her presentation is “Desire gone awry! Can the Neuroscience of Stress and Reward-seeking Provide Clues for Understanding and Treating Addiction?”
Neuroscience Day is free of charge for current chapter members. If you didn’t register in advance, you can register at Neuroscience Day and pay 2010 chapter dues, if necessary.
Chapter News Spotlight
Joyce Fernandes, Ph.D., was elected as Miami University’s Officer-at-Large for 2010 using an email ballot. Dr. Fernandes is an associate professor of zoology at Miami. Her neuroscience research is funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) and from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
OMV-SfN’s 2010 online membership form is now ready for action. Please renew your membership, or join us if you are new to the chapter. You do not have to be a member of SfN to join the chapter and participate in its activities. Our 2010 Neuroscience Day will be free to all OMV-SfN members. James Eliassen, Ph.D. (left; University of Cincinnati) was installed as the 2010 President of the Ohio Miami Valley Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience at the chapter’s business meeting held January 29 in Cincinnati. He was elected as President-Elect in 2009.
Chapter members present at the meeting nominated and elected Michael Hennessy, Ph.D. (Wright State University) to be President-Elect and Kim Hagler (Wright State University) to be Secretary-Treasurer for 2010. Amit Singh, Ph.D., was elected Officer-at-Large for the University of Dayton. An Officer-at-Large for Miami University will be nominated at a later date.
